Testimonies

Initial reflection questions were are in bold below:

Something to improve: What were some challenges that you faced during this process? How did you “Engage and Persist?”

I was kinda nervous to cut the glass at first, but I found it really helpful just to "rip off the band-aid" and do it, because it ended up being really fun.

Something to celebrate: Describe something new, or something positive that you learned during this collaboration. How did you “Stretch and Explore?”

I learned all about glass and glass cutting. It was a whole new kind of art that I had never even knew existed before.

How do you feel about the work you created? Do you like it? Love it?  Not really your thing? If you were the lead artist of this project, how would the final product look to you?

  • The final pieces were very beautiful and I am proud of the classes' progress.

  • I really enjoyed the final product. I liked how professional it looked. I wouldn't have changed anything about it. :)

  • During this experience she really taught us that we can make a job out of what we love. I love what we did together as a class. It was fun experience, and I love to do it again. The end project was amazing!

  • Working with glass is not what I saw coming with this class, but I'm so happy we did! Cutting a rainbow of different colors into pieces large and small was new and exciting. It was amazing to see in our wave mural how all the little pieces fit together so well. Having the murals hung in the hospital has also done wonders for my confidence in my work (although that wasn't very low anyway).

  • I love how our murals came together in the end. The little designs on a portion of the tiles provide enough detail that it grabs the attention of the viewer for a long time as they look at all of them. Both of the murals look stunning, and I'm so honored to have helped in their creation. If I were the lead artist, I'd be very proud of our final product. I heard Mrs. Billet say that we rose above her expectations, so I'm guessing we did pretty well.

  • I am super proud of the piece of art we all made together. You'd think with every person, you'd have many different perspectives and we couldn't agree on just one look. We worked together and made two amazing pieces!

  • I love the work me and my classmates created! It's so beautiful and clean, I can't even believe that we made it. I would not change anything about he or even try to lead and try to make people change their ideas on the colors.

  • I learned how to cut glass and how they make such beautiful art out of glass.

  • I loved the work we created because it was so relaxing and fun to do!

  • Looking at the final products, I felt like a professional because these beautiful glass mosaics is something I worked on

  • I'm absolutely amazed with the end result. The amount of time and effort that went into it was incredible. For doing this for the first time, the classes really pulled through and did something amazing together. Mrs. Billet was also really cool and friendly; she made the process all the more fun :)

  • I love how both of them came out, these were defiantly my favorites. If I had to choose one though, it would be the wave piece. The gradient in the sky came out amazing and the gray on the bottom of the white created a solid foam look which makes it look more "realistic".

  • I learned that the smallest things like scraping grout can make a big difference

  • I learned that you can find a way to make money doing anything you love. I loved Linda's story, and I really appreciated that she shared it with us. I am at a point in high school where I really have to start figuring out what I want to do, where I want to go to college, and gaining more responsibilities. It was reassuring to hear another person share their experience along with showing unique ways to make a living.

  • I am in love with the work we created. I enjoyed this project a lot more than I thought I would. It was really cool to see the progression everyday. I think the work would look a lot different if I were the lead artist because I may look over a few things or seem unsure about them. It was helpful working in a group on such a large project because we had others input. Other people were also a little bit better at cutting or placing the tiles. Everyone had something unique to contribute to the project.

  • I learned to trust other peoples opinions and know that it will turn out well in the end

  • I really like the end result because  it shows all of our ideas put together into one big project and shows everyone personality

  • I liked her and made my imagination grow. I was proud in the end with what we did. She was able to keep everyone on topic and on board.

  • Challenges that I faced during this were trying to imagine what the final product was going to look like and it was hard to work through, but I kept going with what she said and it turned out really well. Something I learned while she was here was working with a new type of medium that is unusual for high school students to work with, and it was a lot of fun. I feel very proud of what we created it turned out really well and looked very good once evrything was done.

  • I really liked this project it was fun working as a team, cutting the glass, and just seeing the outcome of it all was just really beautiful

  • At first, I was not really sure where I was supposed to help.  As the process went on, it became easier for me to understand what needed work, and I was able to quickly jump in to help with certain sections.  I also had some trouble cutting the glass at first, but with more practice, it became much easier.

  • I am really glad that we were able to have this opportunity.  It was fun to work with an artist so passionate about her work, and I learned a lot about the murals that I did not understand before.  Cutting and placing down the glass was a new experience, and I really appreciated being able to try it out.  I also learned quite a bit about how the layout affects a piece of art, and how the tones of colors fit together to make it blend nicely.

  • I really like the work we created.  The texture of the glass is beautiful, and I love how the colors pop out against the grout.  It looks much more professional than just paper, and I was surprised at how well it turned out.  I am glad that we shifted the tiles for the pineapple, but I would change it so that the leaves are much longer.  Keeping the leaves short did turn out well, however, because it allowed more artwork to be placed onto the fruit.  My favorite of the two works was the wave.  The curve of the wave, the blending, and the bright colors came together really well, and I like how it looks so peaceful.  I am overall very happy about being able to have this experience, and I love how the final products turned out.
