Bloom and Belong

5 x 20 feet on both sides

This was a wonderful undertaking that started with a contact by a friend I had worked with on previous projects.  He told me about a project that would involve Hershey and the design needed to convey the message of “welcome.”

We came up with an idea of dandelions fitting in with other flowers. Community included Vista Autism Services, Lower Dauphin High School, Hershey High School, and Milton Hershey High school. All their fused tiles were in the poofs.  Between the four schools we got over a thousand tiles.  The design proposed was going to include an abstract on the back so customers at the restaurant behind the 20 ft wall wouldn’t look at bare cement.  We made so many tiles that we had to put some poofs on the back of the wall.  I loved it as much as the front.  The hardest part of this was mostly out of my hands, starting before I was brought on to the project. Planning and fundraising took years and the site location changed three times.

Sponsors were Hershey Company, Foundation for Enhancing Communities, Catherine Hershey Schools for Early Learning, Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Hershey Entertainment and Resorts, Capital Blue Cross, Capital Construction Management, Hershey Federal Credit Union, McQuade Blasko, Rotary Club of Hershey, and the location was provided and has been upkept by Hershey Trust Company.
