Juniata High School

6 x 10 feet

This project will always be one of my favorites for so many reasons. The most important was that this is the first project that we decided to open it up to an unknown participation (meaning we have no idea who or how many will show up.) The teacher suggested having the community help assemble the mosaic with guidance from the students!  Even more special was the fact that my own mom was able to work on this mosaic… just a short time before she passed. In these photos, she’s the woman with the burgundy sweater, and in the red coat, pictured with my daughter and I after unveiling. One more story out of dozens that I know; there was a student that had both her mother and grandmother working with her on this mosaic.

This piece was gifted to the Juniata Public Library. When hung, the teacher took her son to the library to see the mosaic. While there, she encountered an alumnus student that had worked with us on one of my previous Juniata mosaic projects.  He was there to also check out the mosaic.

This piece has such a huge percentage of fabulous tiles for many reasons.  One is that the design allowed more flexibility in color than most of my projects.  It was also 4 weeks long when most are two weeks.
